TMP007: usable to measure air temperature?

is it possible to use the TMP007 thermopile sensor to measure the temperature of the air nearby? the application is to measure the ambient temperature out of a closed device. an ambient temp sensor would measure the temp inside the device.

    Hi Hanno,

    The TMP007 measures the thermal radiation of a distant object. There is not a significant source of radiation in atmosphere. If there was, it would interfere with our ability to measure distant objects. However, you could potentially direct the device to measure radiation from an object which is at the same temperature as the air which you wish to measure. Just understand that you are not directly measuring the air itself. Let me know if this is not clear.
