TDC1000-TDC7200EVM: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Part Number: TDC1000-TDC7200EVM

Does a 10MHz ultrasonic sensor with tdc1000 module work in air as well?? All experiments as seen by me have been measurements taken under water to measure water flow etc...

We want to measure the time duration of air flow in between sensors. But are the ultrasonic sensors with the module sensitive enough??

  • Hi Aparna,

10Mhz transducers are not recommended for gas measurements because the signal attenuation through the medium at that high of a frequency is far too great to get a reasonable echo. Typically gas measurements are taken using transducers in the 40khz-300khz range.

There is an evaluation module specifically made for gas flow applications: www.ti.com/.../tdc1000-gasevm. It is essentially the same as the TDC1000-7200EVM with some minor changes detailed in the user guide, as well as an attached boost-EVM that boosts the TX signal to up to 30V peak to peak to drive the lower frequency transducers.

    Regards,
