TDC7201: Maximum measurement per second by TDC7201

Part Number: TDC7201

Hello all,

I would like to know minimum time period required before starting next measurement in mode 1. I mean maximum events handled by this device provided maximum spi clock (25 MHz) is used.

I have seen in software minimum trigger refresh rate is 100 ms. Does it mean , it can handle 10 measurements per second at max??

  • Hello,

The measurement frequency is determined by the length of the time of flight and the time it takes to calibrate and read the measurement data from the registers. The calibration and register reads will be roughly 3-4us in mode 1 with a 25Mhz SCLK. Add on your expected time of flight, and that it is the total time needed for a full measurement cycle. A new cycle can begin immediately after this.

The GUI shows a minimum trigger refresh time of 100ms only because of the limitations of the USB communication with the GUI software.

  • Thanks a lot for the reply, Scott.

I would like to add that... In addition to register read of around (32*3) 96 cycles.. 16 cycles are required to start the measurement. Even if my time of flight is around 12 ns, the total time should not exceed 6 us at max.  even after adding pulse widths of both ..which can turn 166 K events per second.

However, I am struggling to get this number, not even close to more  than 100 events per second.

I just posted to make sure that if I am trying to achieve not probable thing.

For 100 ms refresh rate, I feel it could be improved with higher bit rate which is well in reach.

Kindly confirm if anyone has tried to capture the rate.
