AFE5812: Minimum detectable pressure

Part Number: AFE5812

Hello.

I want to check what is the minimum detectable pressure I can get with AFE5812.  My transducer has the sensitivity of -52dB. Or is there anyway I can calculate the minimum detectable pressure?

  • Hello Chang,

    Apologize for the delay.
Were you able to find the answer to your question related to AFE5812?
  • Chang,

to answer your question, we need to link your dB number to our spec of input referered noise IRN.

as you know, the dB is a relative number. without the reference point, we can't find out the abosulate votlage. 1mW on a 50ohm load is defined as 0dBm.

transducer sensitivity can also mean the 2-way insertion loss.  it is using dB as well. are you saying dBm or dB?

on our AFE side, we specifid the input referred noise as 0.75 to 0.85nV/rtHz. let us say we use 0.8nV/rtHz RMS and assuming the pass band is 15MHz; then the input noise level is 0.8*sqrt(15M)=3uV RMS or 8.7uVpp. that means the signal higher than 10uVpp can be detected by our AFEs.

so you need to figure out whether your transducer electrical output is above 10uVpp. it depends on transducer two-way insertion loss when it operates at transciever mode, plus the transmitter voltage.

    Thanks!
