Dear Bala and Clancy

HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS: 

1. I am using a 8 layer coil which has an inductance of 1000uH. In data streaming shown the vertical scaling maximum reach to almost 1200uH. Is this acceptable? 

2. In the configuration, Sensor Filter Bank (Series Inductance) is it remain 0 or should i put the inductance value of the coil?

  • - The LDC1614 is reading a higher inductance than 1000uH, so the vertical scaling looks appropriate. As long as you do not see clipping, then it is OK.

    - The "Series Inductance" will usually be left as zero. If you have extra inductance besides the coil on your board, then you can use this field so that the GUI shows the correct sensor inductance. Note that this has no impact on LDC1614 register settings, it is only for the "Sensor Inductance" calculation shown in the GUI.

    I have another question. By looking at the statistics, why is it the inductance decreasing its value even the target is fixed?
    What is the solution to keep it steady?

    Janine,

    There are a few possibilities:

    1.) Vibration could be causing the target's distance to be changed slightly.
    2.) temperature drift, although that typically looks like a slower moving drift
    3.) varying coupled capacitance

    I would be surprised if you see that type of behavior in a completely stable set-up.
