Hi,

Looking forward to get a AWR/IWR1443/1642BOOST EVM radar sensor. After a long research, I become aware of the main features that distinguish the 14** from the 16** series.

I am very interested in having the azimuth/elevation information provided by the AWR/IWR1443 EVM, however it seems to me this particular device my lack the processing capability for more advanced applications, when comparing with the 1642.

My question are,

1) for more advanced research purposes, what of these devices should I get?!

2) are there any expansion boards (e.g. dca1000 ?) that might compensate the lack of the DSP in the AWR/IWR1443.

3) are the examples/demos provided for the AWR capable of running in a IWR board, and does the same happen between the 1443 and 1642 series?

We recommend IWR1642 since it includes a DSP and provides more flexibility

DCA1000 is used for raw sensor data capture that would subsequently be processed in matlab. It does not compensate the lack of DSP

Yes, the demos running on AWR will run on IWR. Demos for xWR1443 will not run on xWR1642

So just to be clear, If I want to run small programs/ algorithms, they can be designed for the DSP in the 1642, or using the Hardware accelerator in the 1443. However, for more complex and heavy computation it is recommend to use DCA1000 to extract data and process it in the matlab. Am I right ?

Not really,

The DCA1000 card is usually used to capture raw data to develop the algorithm in matlab. After the matlab development is completed, the algorithm is usually implemented on the target, on the DSP or HWA. Then the algorithm runs standalone on the target.

BOOST EVM is required.

DCA1000 is needed only if you plan to capture raw data

Thanks. Just to finish, mmWAVE-DEVPACK will perform similarly to DCA1000 in terms of data capture?
Place order soon, just trying to understand if I should go with the DCA1000 or the mmWave pack.

No, for data capture you will need DCA1000

DEVPACK is not needed for data capture with DCA1000
