AWR1642BOOST: How to do the coordinates conversion of Angle FFT

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

I'm using the AWR1642BOOST which has 2T4R.

But I only use one TX.

After I read two white paper below:

MIMO Radar:

Introduction to  mmwave Sensing: FMCW  Radars:

I tried the conversion of coordinates in the document.

And got the result.

I transformed the time bins of X-axis and four RX idx of Y-axis into range and degree respectively.

1. According to the www.ti.com/.../tidud36b.pdf

Antenna Field of View is ±60º With Angular Resolution of Approximately 15º

But in "Introduction to  mmwave Sensing: FMCW  Radars", Antenna Field of View is ±90º

And the maximum value of Y-axis in my simulation result is only 45 degree.

Is there anything wrong with the coordinates conversion formula?

2.Can you tell me how can you derive the FOV ±60º and Angular Resolution of Approximately 15º?

Thanks a lot!

  • HI,

Please search the forum for "FOV" and "Angular Resolution". There are many threads related to these topics.

    In summary

    1) FOV is determined by the antenna. For the AWR1642BOOST EVM, FOV ~ +/-60deg

    2) Angular Resolution is determined by total number of Rx and Tx Antennae. The formula to compute angular resolution is provided in the MIMO Radar Application Note

    thank you
