AWR1243: SWRA561A is for AWR1243?

Part Number: AWR1243
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1443, , DCA1000EVM, UNIFLASH

Hello,

1)I downloaded SWRA561A  AWR1243 Bootloader Flow  but found the paper seems to be about  AWR1443

there is no cortex R4F in AWR 1243

and the DEV mode 011 (SOP mode 2) = Dev mode has not been mentioned at all

is there an accurate papers about AWR1243 Bootloader Flow ?

2) I  have test VIN_13RF1/2 voltage is 1.3V and internal LDO (VOUT_PA  VOUT_14APLL1) has no voltage output, isthat mean the RF part doesn't work  at all ? BSS firmware has loaded

how can I get RF started?

thank you very much

best regards

Allen

  • Hi Allen,

    1) SWRA561A is indeed about the AWR1243 and not about the AWR1443. There are two Cortex R4F cores in the AWR1243 but they are not user-accessible. The cores are dedicated for the Master Subsystem and the Radar Subsystems.

    2) The internal LDO is disabled by default and needs to be explicitly enabled if needed. The recommendation is to provide the 1V0 supply externally.

Are you using a TI AWR1243BOOST EVM? If so, please use mmWaveStudio to evaluate the behavior of the AWR1243 device first. This will be useful for reference while bringing up the AWR1243 part in a custom design.

  • Hi Anand,

    1. As you told me, I use TI AWR1243BOOST and  mmwave studio 1.0 RADAR API  connection step by step and find 2 bugs in 5th and 6th steps:

    5th step:  SPI  connect failed

    the output Window shows :

    10:10:43]  [RadarAPI]: ar1.PowerOn(0, 1000, 0, 0)

[10:10:43]  Status: Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT

some time SPI  connect is OK  but 6th step RF  power-up failure

    shows: ar1.RfEnable()

Status: Failed, Error Type: RESP TIMEOUT

SOP set  as DEV mode(SOP =011) and I I use two separate 5V-2A  DC  power

What mistakes have I made here? How could I resolve these bugs?

And how can I get the DEV mode information ?

2,VIN_13RF1/2 voltage is 1.3V . This pin should be 1.0V ?but the schematic of AWR1243BOOST shows VIN_13RF1/2 connected to AR_1P3_RF1 which is 1.3V .

    Allen

  • Hi,

The dev mode is only supported with RadarStudio/mmWaveStudio. It is only used for very initial evaluation and is not supported for production. The main difference with the other modes is that the firmware download is done using a UART and not over SPI.

Can you please share a photograph showing the top side of your board and the markings on the IC, and some screenshots showing the mmWaveStudio screen?

Did you do a firmware download? If so, can you also share which firmware you used and which DFP package you got the firmware from?

    Thanks,
    Anand
  • Hi Anand,

top side of your board and the markings on the IC。

I found it belongs to E2.0 mentioned in the document .

    firmwares are  from mmwave_studio_01_00_00_00/rf_eval_firmware/

     best regards ,

    Allen

  • Hi Allen,

Can you confirm which base board you are using: is it the DCA1000EVM (www.ti.com/.../DCA1000EVM) or is it the MMWAVE-DEVPACK (www.ti.com/.../MMWAVE-DEVPACK)

    Thanks,
    Anand
  • hello Anand,
    I am using the DCA1000EVM (www.ti.com/.../DCA1000EVM) and AWR1243boost board
  • Hi,

Can you please use a 5V 2.5A power supply for each of the boards? A 2A supply may not be sufficient?

Can you please try the following:

    0) Close mmWaveStudio
    1) use SOP5 mode (101), and power cycle the board
    2) then use the Uniflash tool to erase the flash memory on the board
    3) then go back to SOP2 mode (011) and power cycle the board again
    4) then try the firmware download and SPI connect sequence using mmWaveStudio

Let me know if this works for you.

    Best Regards,
    Anand
  • Hello
thank you, I found the problem, firmware is wrong .
    thank you very much!
