Linux/IWR1642BOOST: Evaluation software for Linux systems

my customer is evaluating IWR1642BOOST. They are currently working with mmWave Studio on Windows, but would like to move to a portable Linux system as a next step. The Linux system is one of their own products so they could evaluate system integration with the EVM.

What are our options to work with the IWR1642BOOST on Linux systems?

Currently mmWave studio is only supported on Windows systems.

Are there any other options besides mmWave Studio for Linux?
I remember a demo that used the ROS (Robot Operating System) running on a Linux machine.
Would this be an option?

Hello,

Is your customer using the DCA1000? If so, they will have to use windows.

The DCA100 is the supported solution for data capture with the IWR1642Boost.

Hi Chloe,

my impression was that the DCA1000 or TSW1400 are needed for external capture of the raw ADC values from the IWR1642BOOST.
I have also seen standalone IWR1642BOOST usage with the demos we provide, so I think this should be possible, right?

Could you explain when to use which combination of the boards?
I also found MMWAVE-DEVPACK that seems to capture the raw ADC values.

I am a little confused which evaluation setup to recommend to my customer.
They are new to mmWave and want to compare the performance and possibilities of this technology versus optical sensors.

Hello,

The TSW1400 is not recommended. For evaluation we recommend the DCA1000 and mmWave studio. Demos are available online if your customer would also like to try these out on their board. Here is a link to the demos.

Do I understand correct that there is no standalone way for evaluation with just using the IWR1642BOOST?

The People Counting Demo User's Guide (link) for IWR1642BOOST from your link does not mention the DCA1000.
I want to understand if the DCA1000 is mandatory or not, and why we recommend using it for evaluation.

Hi,

The LVDS is needed for raw data capture, which is available through the DCA1000.

My customer does not use a DCA1000 as they do not need to capture the raw data (yet).

Hello,

You customer can take a look at the demos available for Linux. Aside from that, linux is not currently supported and we recommend using the DCA1000 and mmWave Studio for evaluation.
