IWR1443: Program the IWR1443 using TMDSEMU110-U

Hello,

I have a IWR1443 based custom PCB which I am trying to program using TMDSEMU110-U. I have connected UART port RX and TX to corresponding Auxillary port TX and RX and have connected a common GND. I have ensured SOP setting to the flasing setting. I am unable to program using UNIFLASH. It says it is unable "Not able to connect to serial port". Are these connections and my procedure correct to load the program?

Hi Prudhvi,

sounds like you are following the right steps.

Can you confirm if the COM port is showing up as expected?
After setting the SOP mode are you resetting the board?
Do you have the right COM port in UNIFLASH
Lastly, Can you confirm you don't have the COM port opened on any other application?

Hello,

I can confirm all the steps you have mentioned. Today I tested on my IWR1443BOOST by populating R166 and R169 and connecting AR_RS232TX and AR_RS232RX from J5 to my debugger. I have additionally connected GND and also powered my device. I am still unable to succeed.

Hi,

When you connected the RX pins to your debugger, did you removed the resistors routing the UART to the onboard XDS110?

Hello,

I have tried after depopulating the UART resistors aswell. Still I am unable to succeed. Same behavior is being repeated. I am confused as in what the issue is. Do you think the connecting cables are causing the issue? I am in a process of making a custom PCB and am confused to how would I program it.

Hi,

The issue shouldn't be caused by the cable.

Can you try programming the board using the onboard XDS110 and then sending the config and data using the emulation board to confirm if its an issue of compatibility with Uniflash?

Hello Prudhvi,

You can also just use a USB to FTDI cable instead of the XDS110 debug probe.

We have tested this solution and had no issues.

Can you confirm that you were able to program the board before the ECOs?

Hello,

I have just ordered the FTDI board which Adrian has suggested.

I did not understand what is ECOs.

I have attached some pictures of my setup, I have tried both giving 5V from external supply and also from the XDS110 probe. Kindly check if I am doing any mistake. I strongly feel so because I have tested the same setup on IWR1642BOOST aswell.

Hi,

Did you solder on the 0-ohms resistor R169 and R166?

if you look at the schematic (snippet below), the RX and TX route to the header includes these resistor and they are by default DNI (do not include)

I can confirm I have shorted R169 and R166. I have checked the continuity of signal aswell.

Hi,

Maybe the picture isn't clear. But it seems you have the RX and TX cable on the 5V part side of the header instead of the 3V3 side of it.

You need to flip the sides of the connection.

Yes I have connected perfectly as schematic and checked as attached picture. Yet the result is same. I think there is some issue with the debugger. I have ordered Adrian's suggested FTDI cables. Lets hope they work. I will keep the post updated.

Hello,

I have received the suggested module and tested it. The good new is that it works perfectly on IWR1642BOOST and doesnt work on IWR1443BOOST. It could be some issue I am working on IWR1642 so I will go ahead with the situation. Thanks for the support.
