AWR1642: Getting MM Wave Studio Radar API and Ports to Show up

Part Number: AWR1642
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DCA1000EVM

I am running mmwave studio along with the AWR 1642 and the DCA1000 EVM.

Last week, I installed mmwave studio, and the radar api showed up, as did all of the Dev pack, communications, and XDS110 ports. Today, I opened mmWave studio once again, but only the XDS110 ports show up. I have in fact installed the FTDI drivers. What's more, I can't get Radar API to show up, even though radar API showed up last week.

I just wondered if this has anything to do with the fact that even when radar API was showing up last week, when I tried running the DataCapturedemo_xWR.lua as instructed by the DCA1000 EVM quick start guide, not only did the file fail to run, in radar API it said that both RS232 and SPI were disconnected. However, it did show the FTDI as "connected."

Thank you.

  • Hello Alex,

Did you try re-installing the FTDI drivers? Did you PC/Laptop undergo any Windows update? Windows update sometimes would need you to re-install the FTDI drivers. You will be able to work with the mmWaveStudio if the FTDI drivers for the DCA1000EVM are properly installed and working.

    Thanks,

    Raghu

  • Hi Raghu,

Yes, there was a windows update a couple days ago, and that could be why.

However, I did delete the mmWaveStudio (wasn't able to actually uninstall it, though), then re-installed it. I checked to see that the FTDI drivers were there. Am I missing any drivers? See the below picture:

Also, does not seeing radar API have anything to do with drivers?

  • You will need to re-install the FTDI drivers and then check the device manager to see if the drivers are installed properly.

  • The FTDI drivers now work, thank you. However, I tried running the demo script, the DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua, on RadarAPI, but it stalled while "Downloading Firmware to device." And yes, I did in fact change the static IP address as instructed.

I suspect that it may have stalled because I had not yet set up things in DataConfig, StaticConfig, etc. before running the test script. So I tried setting StaticConfig after SPI Connection and RF Power Up, but by that time, the DataConfig and StaticConfig tabs had disappeared.

If the DataConfig and StaticConfig tabs have disappeared, how can I get them to show up again?

Also, do you have any other ideas as to why RadarAPI is stalling while Downloading Firmware to device?

  • Hi ,

If you have followed the userguide without missing any of the steps mentioned there is no reason for the RadarAPI to stall or get stuck.
