AWR1642BOOST: from IF signal to 1D Range FFT

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

Hi together,

we know that the 1D-/Range-FT is the Fourier transform of the IF signal. I assume, it only consists of positive frequencies.

Now, I have the following setup: I make measurements with 272 samples after ADC per channel. These 272 samples (complex IF symbols) are then Fourier transformed to get information about their frequency composition. To make use of the FFT algorithm, the samples are zero-padded to the next power of 2, namely 512. However, my setup also gives me 512 range bins. Referring to my assumption, these range bins correspond completely to positive (or at least non-negative) frequencies. But, a time series of length N should only yield a spectrum of up to N/2 positive and N/2 negative frequency bins, respectively.

Have I made any mistakes up to here? If not, how is it possible, that 272 time samples zero-padded to 512 give me 512 frequency values, all of them corresponding to positive frequencies?
