AWR1642: The mmWare studio contstream can't work well

Part Number:

Hi,

Is the "Contstream" mode in the mmware studio can't work well.

I can step by step run: Connection --> StaticConfig  --> DataConfig --> ContStream-->Capture-->Stop Capture--> Display

All status is passed. But the transmit antenna doesn't seem to be enabled and the captured data look like noise

So how can I use CW mode to get the right echo data

Thanks!

  • Hi,

Could you help us understand your use-case a little?

Continuous streaming mode is usually meant for RF lab characterization and is not normally used for functional distance measurements. Are you attempting to do some characterization measurements, or are you attempting to do functional measurements?

  • I just want to use continuous waves to measure velocity.

I don't care the distance and just need Doppler frequency

    Thanks for your reply

  • My settings and the captured data are shown in the figure below

The captured data look like noise.

The txEnable in Programmed Parameters is 0 0 0 .It seems that the transmitting antenna is not working, only the receiving antenna is working

So how can I enable the tx?

  • Hi,

Then you should not be using continuous wave mode. You may want to use functional chirps configured using the Sensor Config tab instead.

  • Thanks for your reply!

So I need additional configuration to implement the ContStream function?

Or the ContStream mode does not support single frequency continuous wave to realize the function I want (get the Doppler frequency)?

If I can't use ContStream tab to transmit single frequency continuous wave.

Then how to configure the single frequency continuous wave mode in the Sensor Config tab

    Best Regards

  • Hi,

The CW mode does transmit at a single frequency continuously. The enabled transmitters are controlled using the settings in the StaticConfig tab in mmWaveStudio.

However, your captures will look like noise because the slope is 0, and everything will be seen at DC. So the behavior you are reporting is expected.

I'm afraid we still do not understand what you are trying to do. Please note that our devices are only meant for FMCW radar, where you would normally configure multiple like chirps and use the phase shift across the chirps to measure velocity.

  • I know the slope is 0 when target is stationary.

I think the slope ( frequency of captured data ) should be Doppler Frequency when I detect moving objects.

    Is that right?

But the slope still is 0 when I use Continuous Wave to detect some target with velocity ?

  • Hi,

This is not correct. The reflected signal and the mixed LO signal will be of the same frequency, so the resulting IF signal will be at DC.

You might want to review the FMCW radar trainings from here:
