E2E forum word wrapping bug reported by customer

Customer reports a problem with submitting a question on E2E.  The word wrapping does not push the wrapped text all the way to the next row; it overlaps the previous row.  This was not visible to me, just the customer.  Also, it only showed up upon during the initial ticket authoring.  When he came back to answer a question from me, the word wrapping worked fine.

Here is his OS/browser info.

Windows 7, chrome Version 66.0.3359.181 (Official Build) (64-bit)

  • Hi Mike, I'm running the same version of Chrome, but on Win10. Can you tell me if this is occurring when using the rich text editor or plain text. You can tell you're using the plain text editor if there's no toolbar present and the Insert Code, Attach Files and more... link is present. Also would it be possible to ask for a screenshot of the problem. I can't seem to reproduce anything like this on my machine.

    Hi Bill,

I sent the link to this thread to the customer and asked him to respond here. His name is Bandit and he has been great about providing feedback.

    I am the user..

This was the original window you see when you first start a thread. It was the rich text editor.

I was able to re-create it. - kind of. Just replicated it, but don't have a sequence that always fails.

The condition occurs for the lines after inserting the link. But I don't know what the condition that triggers after that. May have something to do with attaching/inserting a picture, but not sure. It has to do with the link. It may also have to do with changing the size of the window. Perhaps also adding something from word??

I suspect a weird race condition of some sort.

Insert a link (the kicad, for example) If you hit return at the end of the  link, it follows the link, you get some image for "cannot tell what this is".

    https://forum.kicad.info/t/hackaday-designing-for-fab-a-heads-up-before-designing-pcbs-for-professional-assembly/7886

You can see an example of the wrap after the link. But it is more complex than that - not able to make it fail after adding the link above. May have also to do with adding a picture.

NOTE: There is a space after the link. If you just hit CR, the editor wants to insert a picture even if it is trash.

If you add the link, then a line below it to wrap, you probably will not hit the bug. BUT - if the bug is triggered, then all lines directly below the link start failing.

Sorry I cannot give you an exact sequence. But I was able to hit some sequence that replicated the bug.

I'm running windows 7 (no choice - big company (Thales) IT corporate policy)

    Hope this helps ... bandit

Look on the DS90UB926QSEVB high-speed interface forum for the original test the screen shop above comes from. This way, you have a "fresh" example.
