Search only a specific forum

Hello TI,

this question may sound dumb but how do I search a specific forum?

For example if I'm at the "temperature sensor" forum

  https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensor/temperature_sensors/f/243

I'm using the search form at the top to search for the terms "absolute relative".

While entering the search terms, a small number of results appear and they seem to relate to posts in the Temperatur Sensors Forum. This seems to be a kind of "preview" function.

See this screenshot:

However, after pressing return, the results relate to all forums and not only to the Temperature Sensors Forum.

I think this might be a bug in the forum software as the search bar shows the options

  • in Temperature Sensors Forum
  • In Temperatur Sensors
  • Anywhere

which seems to impose a limitation to the searched set of forums and "In Temperature Sensors Forum" is clearly selected.

How can I restrict the search results to a certain forum?

Thanks.

  • Hi Daniel,

Glad to see you are using SEARCH.  In your example, when you see the three suggestions at the bottom of the Search bar, click Anywhere, then the Search icon.  The new page will have a listing of Forums on the left side of the page, in this case, it shows 112 Forums where these terms appear.  Click on the View All at  the end of the list, this will expand the listing to all 112 Forums.  You can then select the specific Forum (or Forums) from which you want to see the Search results.

    Regards,

    ~Leonard

  • correction:  I stated  112 Forums ,but the 112 is the number of threads total in the Forums listed.  The number of threads in each Forum is shown in ( ) with the Forum name, so, for example, Code Composer Studio has (13) threads, as part of the total (112).

  • Hi Leonard,

thanks for suggesting a "workaround solution". However, it does not work.

See the screenshot above? There are at least 3 matching posts for my search terms in the Temperature Sensors Forum.

Now when I follow your advice and click on "Anywhere" and then the Search icon, the new page will show the "Temperature Sensors" Forum with 1 matching thread only.

I'm glad that apparently my question was not dumb ;-) , rather the TI E2E Forum Search does not work as expected.
  • Hi Daniel,

you stated> rather the TI E2E Forum Search does not work as expected <

but not true, there is one more piece I neglected to convey to you.  In the Filter by section under Creation Date, the default is 1 year, just change that to Any.  You'll see all the threads.

    At your service,

    ~Leonard

  • Daniel,

Change your Creation Date setting in the filters to "Any" - this should show all of the responses. We default to "Past Year".

    Hope this helps,

    John

    Hi Leonard,

    I beg to differ.

I think the Forum Search does not work as expected. At least not as me and you, the average user, expects it to work.

Please have a look at the screenshot again. As I already pointed out, when entering search terms in the search bar, additional options are displayed, i.e.,

    • in Temperature Sensors Forum
    • In Temperatur Sensors
    • Anywhere

These options come without any explanation. I assume that the developers considered them "self-explanatory". For the average user, these options seem to impose a limitation of the search space when performing a search. This assumption is corroborated by your instructions you gave earlier " In your example, when you see the three suggestions at the bottom of the Search bar, click Anywhere, then the Search icon." You instructed me to click on "Anywhere" as you assumed this would somehow have an effect on the relevant search space.

    It doesn't.

I could happily enter the search terms and just click on the search icon (with "in Temperature Sensors Forum" still selected) and would end up at the same search page with the following URL:

      e2e.ti.com/search

I consider this a bug and I'm happy that you tripped over it, too.

Instead, to provide a consistent UX, performing the search should have opened this URL:

      e2e.ti.com/search

To make a long story short: when clicking on the search icon, the next page should honor the selection regarding search space offered by the options below the search field.

If this is not a bug in your opinion, consider it a feature request for improving the UX of the e2e forum.

    Thanks.

    Daniel
