TS5A3167: Could you tell me background of the description VCC+0.5V(max)?

Part Number: TS5A3167

Hi Team,

The datasheet shows TS5A3167 has "Isolation in Powered-Off Mode, VCC = 0" as the following.
------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------

On the other hand, Abs max shows VCC+0.5V(max) for VNC and VCOM.
Could you tell me background of the description VCC+0.5V(max)?

  • Yaita,

The Vcc + 0.5 absolute maximum rating is due to the ESD protection diodes that can conduct when the voltage on the signal path is greater than Vcc.

The isolation in powered off mode is referencing the case when Vcc = 0V that the signal path will remain high impedance.  If Vcc is not equal to 0V the abs max specification you reference applies.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam-san,

    Thank you for your support.
I understand the following blue duration is no problem in terms of absolute maximum ratings.
Is it possible case to damage the device during red duration?

  • Yaita,

I have tested this device in the lab and have the following explanation of the abs max table.

    1) The powered off protection spec will only isolate the bus with Vcc = 0V
    2) the abs max rating on the NC/COM pins can be up to 5.5 V based on notes 4 and 5.
    3) If there is 5.5V on the NC or COM pin, as the Vcc ramps from 0V to a valid Vcc voltage there will be leakage from the signal path to Vcc. This leakage must be within the current clamp rating based on note 4.

    Thank you,
    Adam
