TS3A27518E: whether the chip can be used for I2C signal demux?

Part Number: TS3A27518E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX1209, TMUX1574

whether the TS3A27518E chip can be used for I2C signal demux?

The pin is i2c and genral io mux used, and i want to demux the io pin.

Whether can i use the TS3A27518E chip?

  • Joey,

The I2C protocol isn't very demanding < 5V and <400kHz.  The lowest bandwidth switch at TI is 15 MHz so it will be no issue supporting 400kHz as long as the voltage is within the recommended range of the switch.

The TS3A27518E is a 3 V device so you need to make sure your I2C signals are within the recommended operating conditions of the device of 3V.

The device you chose is a 6-channel 2:1 device.  Do you need to switch 3 different I2C pairs to two different locations?

or are you looking for a device that can switch to many different locations like a 4:1 TMUX1209.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks a lot.

jtag and i2c signal complex the same pad pin in our chip.

So i need demux the jtag and i2c signal to different device, i think to use the TS3A27518E to switch the signal.

It seems TS3A27518E can support 1.8v device ? not 3v device?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Joey,

The TMUX1574 will be a good choice for your application to switch between JTAG and I2C.  You can add pull up resistors on the I2C slave device and leave the unused pins floating.

    Thank you,

    Adam
