TS5A3167: Operating temp range and max junction temp of DCK packaged device

What is the maximum power dissipation, operating temperature supported and the maximum junction temperature of TS5A3167DCKR?

    The TS5A3167 operating temperature is -40C - 85C. See package addendum at the end of the datasheet.

     

    Take a look at this thread "how to calculate the max junction temperature for an analog switch."  This thread will show you how to use the thermal metric information in the datasheet to calculate the max junction temperature and power dissipation during normal operation of the device.

    For the TS5A3167DCK package the maximum temperature the junction inside the IC will get is 112 deg C with max allowable power going through the switch.

    If this topic requires an App-Note, and a Calculator sheet, then perhaps it's worth adding a "Max Power Dissipation" spec for each of the Vcc ranges specified (since Vcc range is the major contributor to variance in this calculation).  

    Also, typically, devices have a "Max Operating Junction Temperature" spec for the IC.... often this is something like 125C, for example.  Is there any such "Max Operating Junction Temp" spec for this device?   What "if" the calculation calculated a junction temp of 130C, would that be "OKAY"?   Or, is the answer really that you specified the max Continuous Current in the Abs-max table (200mA in this case), based on the worst-case dissipation across Vcc ranges and an "unspecified" max junction temp already.   Such that, staying under the max current and max ambient temp, will ensure the junction stays below the theoretical max junction temp?

    The calculator shows the theoretical/static calculation of the Max Power Dissipation. You'll notice in the  power dissipation equation, the continuous current and RON are the dominant factor in the calculation and the dominant factor in the Tjmax equation is ambient temperature.

    112C is an approximation of the maximum junction temperature that the device can obtain while operating at its maximum recommended values.  The datasheet abs max table states that max storage temperature for the device is 150°C which is well above 112°C.  This will mean that there is little risk of thermally causing damage while running this part to its maximum recommended values.

    Since signal switches are low power devices they will not get very hot even if you are operating the device to its maximum limits stated in the datasheet. There will be risk involved if you operate outside the max datasheet limits.
