TS5A3159-EP: Junction Temperature Range

Part Number: TS5A3159-EP

Hello,

What are the operating range and the absolute Max rating of TS5A3159-EP's junction temperature? They are not written in the data sheet, unfortunately.

Best regards,
Shinichi Yokota

  • The maximum allowed power dissipation is 4.9 Ω × (200 mA)² = 196 mW, so the worst-case offset between junction and ambient temperature is 165 °C/W × 196 mW = +32.34 °C. So the maximum TJ is 125 °C + 32.34 °C = 157.34 °C, which is pretty much consistent with the allowerd storage temperature.

  • Hi Shinichi,

You can also refer to the following FAQ for calculating the Max Junction temperature:

  • Saminah,

No, my question asks about the TJ specs of the TS5A3159-EP. What's the absolute Max spec of TJ and what's the recommended operating temperature range spec of the TJ.

Is it OK to understand that the TS5A3159-EP's operating TJ will not exceed these TJ specs (I believe there are specs even if they are not written in the data sheet) if the operating TA is kept under 125 °C?

I know how to calculate the TJ but that's not the question I wanted to ask.

  • Hi Shinichi,

The max Junction temperature is given by the FAQ I shared. This gives an approximation of the maximum junction temperature ( Tjmax) that the device can obtain while operating at its maximum recommended values.  The datasheet abs max table states that max storage temperature for the device is 150°C which is pretty much consistent with the allowed storage temperature (~150 °C).

The max junction temperature represents how hot the IC can get if the device is operated a) within the recommended operating conditions and b) in such a way to try and create the most heat inside the device. Since signal switches are low power devices they will not get very hot even if you are operating the device to its maximum limits. That is the reason we only spec the max Junction temperature in our datasheets.

Your understanding on operating TA is kept under 125 °C is correct. You cannot reliably power up and operate a signal switch in an ambient environment greater than the limit stated in the datasheet (125 deg C for TS5A3159-EP).

We cannot guarantee the datasheet performance at ambient temperature greater than the limit stated in the datasheet.
