TS5A3160: TS5A3160 GND pin left open considered power off?

Part Number: TS5A3160

Hi,

Normally if VCC = 0V will put the device into shut down mode. But if VCC is still connected to 5V but GND is disconnected or left open, will it go into shut down mode as well?

Thanks.

  • YY,

It is tough to say how the protection feature will behave in your use case because TI switches implement this powered off isolation feature with different architectures. I have contacted the engineer responsible for this device so he can look into the TS5A3160 design and provide you with the expected behavior.

How are you using this device that you are disconnecting ground in your system?

    Thank you,
    Adam
  • Yee Yong,

The AMR table on page 4 on data sheet show pins must be be more negative than -0.5V; that means there are diode form all pins to GND.
Therefore the lowest pin voltage will try to be the new GND; GND will be about lowest pin voltage + 0.5V, and the device may be powered.
