SN74LV4052A-Q1: Using analog mux as I2C mux

Part Number: SN74LV4052A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9546A, , SN74LV4052A

Hello Team,

One of my customer is looking for an equivalent of PCA9546A (I2C mux) with operating temp range >= 105C. Our I2C mux portfolio doesn't have a device with temp range > 85C.

I guess we can use SN74LV4052A-Q1 as an I2C mux here. Let me know, if there are going to be any challenges.

Regards,

Mahendra

  • Mahendra,

Why do you need to support >105 C?

All TI passive switches may be used for any protocol as long as the signal voltage and bandwidth are within the recommended operating conditions.  The SN74LV4052A-Q1 will support up to 5 V signals and <35MHz signals which are both within the I2C specification.  For more information about different protocols you may reference this e2e post.

Also you will need to make sure you have pull up resistors on each side of the switch to guarantee known states when switching channels.  When sizing these resistors remember that they will be in parallel and will effectively cut your total pull up resistance in half.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hello Adam,

What would be typical pin capacitance of SN74LV4052A-Q1?

I understand that this device has very wide bandwidth as compared to required by I2C. However customer would like to know about this parameter.

    Regards,

    Mahendra

  • Mahendra,

I'm sorry the capacitance specs are not in the SN74LV4052A-Q1 datasheet.  You can get a good idea of the capacitance values from the similar SN74LV4052A datasheet.

    Thank you,

    Adam
