SN74CB3Q3251: I’m looking for an 8:1 and 4:1 LVDS mux capable of handling 500MHz signaling speeds

e2e,

I'm looking for an 8:1 and 4:1 LVDS mux capable of handling 500MHz signaling speeds. I’ve found the below devices and they look appropriate, will these work at 500MHz?

SN74CB3Q3253 (ACTIVE)

Dual 1-of-4 FET Multiplexer/Demultiplexer 2.5-V/3.3-V Low-Voltage High-Bandwidth Bus Switch

Thanks in advance,

Adam

  • Hi Adam,

Roughly speaking, both devices can support up to 500MHz bandwidth. However, whether or not it can meet your LVDS requirements also depends on the signal fundamental frequency and its waveform. In other words, it depends on how much margin you want to leave to the system.

For example, the data rate is 100Mbps square wave, having a 500MHz multiplexer should be good enough. If the LVDS data rate is up to 150Mbps square wave, theoretically, only the 3rd harmonic can pass through the multiplexer. Board parasitics, temperature, receiver detection performance are also in need of considerations.
