TS3A27518E-Q1: 1.8V I/O with 3.3V VCC

Part Number: TS3A27518E-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A27518E

Hi Team,

We had a question come in that I wanted to double check with you before replying.

Their engineer wants to use the TS3A27518E-Q1 as a 1.8V mux, with VCC at 3.3V. In other words, VIN, VEN, VCOM, VNC, and VNO at 1.8V and VCC at 3.3V.

Do you see any issues with this? VCOM, VNO, and VNC can be analog signals so that seems ok, but will 1.8V at VIN/VEN be enough for a logic high?

Regards, Diego

  • Hello Diego,

    You are correct about the VCOM, VNO, and VNC pins for this device since it is an analog switch, meaning signals between 0 to VCC is allowed.

    As for your questions about VIN/VEN, those are categorized as the digital control inputs.

    The answer is yes, if you look at the datasheet, you will notice that we only spec it for a Vcc of 3.6 and 2.7. But if you look at the snippet below, you can infer that 1.8V will be more than enough to be considered a HIGH for this device.

    Vcc = 3.6V:

    Vcc = 2.7V:

    From the two snippets that your 1.8V going to the switch's VIN/VEN is well above the minimum to be considered a HIGH logic value.

    Thanks,

    Louie

  • Thank you Louie.

    One more questions, they will only be using 4 of the 6 channels. Is there anything they should do to the unused channels or can they be left floating?

    Regards, Diego
  • Hello Diego,

    We advice that you tie any unused channels to GND so that you don't have to worry about triggering the protection diodes within the device.

    Thank you,

    Louie
  • HI Louie,

    Are there any recommend EVMs that can be used to test the TS3A27518E-Q1?

    Regards, Diego Lewis

  • Hello Diego,

    Unfortunately we do no currently have an EVM for the TS3A27518E(in the normal consumer or automotive(Q1) rating) at this current time.

    In the past, our team and customers have done evaluations using Proto Advantage (link below) to do quick functionality and DC tests since they provide PCB's to fit all sorts of different package types.

    May I ask what types of tests your customer is trying to run with regards to our device?

    Thank you,

    Louie
