CD74HC4067: New Products of Mutiplexers

Hi,

My customer is an industrial power solution. They are developing new PDU(Power Distribution Unit) product and it’s under definition now.

 

They have used the CD74HC4067 on existing PDU product, however it’s legacy product. Customer is looking for a new Multiplexer product with better features?

 

System Topology/flow:

Get current information from Fluxgate current transformer(x42)=> Multiplexer(>14ch)=>Line Driver(Single end to Differential) => AMC1305(x3)=>C2000

    We are planning to have CD74HC4067 successor released to market in 2018.

    By just reviewing your system topology, does CD74HC4067 have enough voltage swing? Is not your customer using MUX506? MUX506 has a much wider voltage range and it targets industrial application as your customer likely does.

    yes, CD74HC4067 has been using on legacy PDU product for several years. The voltage input of the MUX is below 5V from current sensing module. So far there is no defetive part return due to voltage swing. what i want to know is that if there is any new generation MUX instead of CD74HC4067?

    How does MUX506 achieves 21:1 for Industrial PDU application? As i know the largest configuration of the MUX is 16:1 as MUX506. Please help on this.

    Hi Brian,

    As you suggested, MUX506 is 16:1. If two MUX506 is used in parallel and connect their common output port, 32:1 can be acheived.

    If your customer is very cost sensitive, MUX506 + MUX508 combined can be used. Then, it gives you 24:1.

    Please be aware of your customer used to have CD74HC4067 on their system. CD74HC4067 might be supplied by single power 5V. However, MUX506/7/8/9 requires at least +/-5V bipolar or 10V single supply.
