TS3A4751: Best choice for 2 outputs and 1 input for LED multiplexing in wearable applications

Part Number: TS3A4751
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS3A44159, AFE4410, TS5A26542, TS5A6542

Dear Sir,

I have to control the output voltage (which is very low) of 2 sensors and the input voltage of 2 pairs of red/ired leds. It is for a low-power wearable system with 5V power supply.

According to the user's instructions, one sensor and one pair of leds is activated at a time. Since switching between sensors and leds is performed by the user, timing is not critical.

The TS3A44159 seems to be a good option. Do you have any other suggestion, please?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Fernando

  • Fernando,

The TS3AXXXX devices will not be suitable for you application because these are 3V supply switches.  The TSXXXXXX family of products has the first number as the voltage supply so you will need to find a TS5XXXXX device support your 5V supply if you choose the TSXXXXXX family.

The ti.com switch search tool provides 32 switches when I filter for 2:1, <4 channels, and 5V single supply.

To narrow down the search more I have seen other customers in wearable LED muxing applications choose devices with:

    1. low on-state resistance
    2. small size
    3. and 1.8V control logic compatible to pair with the AFE4410

Based on this additional criterial you might want to look at the TS5A26542 and TS5A6542.

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Dear Adam Torma,

Thank you very much for your kind answer.

Could you please tell me what does AFE4010 mean?

Also, is there any guide in TI about hand soldering BGA devices (the ones you suggested)? We need to solder a few boards manually, and after that we will solder thousands of them (using machines).

In case hand soldering is very difficult for the devices you suggested, maybe the TS5A23159 (UQFN or VSSOP package) could work, since I am controlling with 5V.

    Thank you,

    Fernando

  • Fernando,

The AFE4410 is a TI product. Ultra-Small Integrated AFE With FIFO for Wearable Optical Heart-Rate Monitoring and Biosensing.

Like you said using a machine is the easiest way solder BGA package but you can use solder paste and a heat gun to do the job with some patients as seen in the video below.

    Thank you,

  • Thank you.Adam. The AFE4410 seems to be an interesting device. I am waiting for TI sending me the documents I requested. Do you happen to have any other tutorial on how to use the AFE4410, please?

    Thanks.

    Fernando

  • Fernando,

We have not received your request yet, but usually takes 1-3 days to process. Keep in mind the AFE4410 is NDA restricted so we would need an NDA in order to provide full device details.
