CD74HC4067: UART MUX application

Part Number: CD74HC4067
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMUX136

Hi,

We need a MUX to fulfill UART 1:12 MUX function.  Do you think we can use two CD74HC4067 chips (one for UART TX and one for UART RX) to make it?  Please let me know if there's a better option.

Thanks!

Antony

  • Antony,

If you're UART signal voltage and bandwidth is within the recommended operating conditions and your system can handle ~60 ohm series resistance the CD74HC4067 can work.

Most switches can support UART signals because of their low speeds and we even new ones like the TMUX136 (2-channel, 2:1 mux).  Unfortunately, our portfolio doesn't have many options for 12:1 mux.

What you're you trying to communicate with that uses so many UART signals?

    Thank you,

    Adam

  • Hi Adam,

    Thanks.  It's used in server.
