CD74HC4051-Q1: Propagation Delay and Jitter of CD74HC4051-Q1

Part Number: CD74HC4051-Q1

Hi,

A customer is evaluating the CD74HC4051-Q1 and has a couple of questions below:

-        What would be the propagation delay at Vcc=3.3V and Vee=GND?

-        How is the jitter performance?

-        There are also concerns over typical and max Ron values. Ron of this part has a lot of variation (at Vcc = 4.5V, Ron = 70 typ, 240 max). At typical Ron, with 25pF of output capacitance, the bandwidth is 90MHz. But at max Ron, the bandwidth drops to 26MHz. The slower rise time will increase the trigger signal jitter caused by voltage noise.

Thank you for your help,

  • Hi Whitney,

Propagation delay @ Vcc = 3.3V is not specified in the datasheet, but you may want to use the propagation @2V(18ns) and @4.5V(90ns) as reference. Please keep in mind. The assumption is when a 50pF capacitor load is there.

For generic signal switches, jitter is not specified since jitter always goes with frequency.

You analysis of Ron with respect to bandwdith is valid. For now, we do not have a better Ron of 8:1 multiplexer from our portfolio.
