Compact Antenna for omnidirectional patern and CC243x
JP2465
Hi all, I am questionning all of you if you have a very good design for the CC243x family of SoC, for a good, consistent omnidirectional antenna wich is very compact. I choose to use an Annaren balun (found in an AN) with a chip antenna (the smallest of Antenova : gigaNOVA). Simply the balun adapt...

Copying the reference design is not always the best thing: dimensions are not mentioned (or I can't find them) and the DXF and Gerber files don't import correctly in Cadence Allegro PCB Editor (a lot of useless artifarcts appear). In addition, I like to know what the specifications of the balun...

Hi: We are working on an wireless sensor project using the CC2480 and an AVR microcontroller. CC2430 and Anaren Balun Connection to Inverted F Antenna

My design includes the CC2430 with Anaren Balun connected to Inverted F Antenna (DN0007). Since the impedance of the antenna and balun are both 50 ohms, can the antenna feed point be connected directly (within 0.2mm) to the balun pad without using 50 ohm PCB transmission line? Circuit layout is in accordance...

Hi, If you are interested in a very small compact antenna; then there are design companies such as Fractus who specilze in very compact antenna design ( http://www.fractus.com/ ). You can either purchase standard antenna components from them or use them as antenna consultants for integrating small...

The readme.txt in the SWRC065.zip gerber package specifies the following board parameters: PCB DESCRIPTION:2 LAYER PCB 0.8 MM NOMINAL THICKNESS FR4 WITH 0.35um Cu PER LAYER I assume the 0.35um Cu is a typo and really means 0.35mm thick Cu which is very close to standard 1 oz Cu. And is the board...

Re: pinyon antenna and microstrip balun
Richard Wallace
Hi Peter, The Pinyon antenna has been designed to a 50ohm interface so this can be "ported" to any 2.4 GHz device just as long as the interface is kept at 50 ohm. The antenna is IP based and once you have "ported" the design over to your board, I'm sure that Pinyon would tweek...

Re: Dual band antennas 915/868 MHz
Richard Wallace
Hi, I agree with the comments that 868/915 MHz can be viewed as a singular antenna design. Check out DN016, DN008, DN023, DN024 for the antennas that we have used in some ref designs. Each ref design includes the radiation pattern and the performance achieved in a range link. Regards, Richard.

Re: Folded dipole reference antenna on CC2520
Richard Wallace
Hi Adam, The CC2520 has a difference impedance than the CC2500, CC2550, CC2510, and CC251. If it is your first PCB, and your are targeting the simplest antenna then it might be more advisable to go for a single ended antenna then this will be easier to debug and evaluate in the lab. Use a balun &...

Richard Wallace
Hi Z, Good comments, I both agree and disagree at the same time :) The distance of 3km (LOS) is practical but if this has to be guaranteed then the environment parameters will have to be reviewed thoroughly. Totally agree that the antenna choice and height above ground has a huge part to determine...

Re: Inverted-F or chip antenna? 2.4GHz

Hi Marcelo, To find the exact matching for the inverted F-antenna on your PCB: Remove the connection from the radio to the antenna on the 50ohm track and then solder a 50ohm semi-rigid RF cable (with a SMA connector on) to the antenna. Enter the PCB into the final housing and bring the SMA connector...

Re: PI-Network for antenna matching

HI Fab, With the pi-network, the antenna can always be matched to 50ohm. With only 2 components, there is a risk that the antenna can not be matched perfectly to 50hms. The extra component on the antenna match network gives complete freedom for matching compared to only 2 components. The majority of...

Hi Anders, The antenna illustrated in AN040 is correct for the ground plane size used for the CC2400 EM board. AN040, section 7, "implementations with ground plane size different from the reference design will most likely require a slightly different antenna length". So the figures shown...
