Copying the reference design is not always the best thing: dimensions are not mentioned (or I can't find them) and the DXF and Gerber files don't import correctly in Cadence Allegro PCB Editor (a lot of useless artifarcts appear). My design includes the CC2430 with Anaren Balun connected to Inverted F Antenna (DN0007). Since the impedance of the antenna and balun are both 50 ohms, can the antenna feed point be connected directly (within 0.2mm) to the balun pad without using 50 ohm PCB transmission line? Circuit layout is in accordance...

Hi Peter, The Pinyon antenna has been designed to a 50ohm interface so this can be "ported" to any 2.4 GHz device just as long as the interface is kept at 50 ohm. The antenna is IP based and once you have "ported" the design over to your board, I'm sure that Pinyon would tweek...

    Richard Wallace Richard Wallace
Hi, I agree with the comments that 868/915 MHz can be viewed as a singular antenna design. Check out DN016, DN008, DN023, DN024 for the antennas that we have used in some ref designs. Each ref design includes the radiation pattern and the performance achieved in a range link. Regards, Richard.

Hi Adam, The CC2520 has a difference impedance than the CC2500, CC2550, CC2510, and CC251. If it is your first PCB, and your are targeting the simplest antenna then it might be more advisable to go for a single ended antenna then this will be easier to debug and evaluate in the lab. Use a balun &...

Hi Z, Good comments, I both agree and disagree at the same time :) The distance of 3km (LOS) is practical but if this has to be guaranteed then the environment parameters will have to be reviewed thoroughly. HI Fab, With the pi-network, the antenna can always be matched to 50ohm. With only 2 components, there is a risk that the antenna can not be matched perfectly to 50hms.
