Re: CC2520 TX Power Below -18dBm
Michael2176
Using other power settings other than those recommended can result in poor performance, in this case most probably an increase in Error Vector Magnitude, EVM. Briefly, EVM is a measure to quantify the signal quality, and is measured in % (you'll want to have a low value as possible). However...

We're talking about the CC 25 20, not the CC 24 20. The balun is therefore not appropriate. I also want to implement additional ESD protection, where the protection devices add extra capacitance and inductance. This needs to be compensated for optimum performance.

Re: Impedance CC2520 transceiver for matching network

Unfortunately, like many RF transceivers, the CC2520 is highly sensitive to its load impedance - especially at low temperatures. This does not only affect range (sensitivity and output power), but most notably the signal quality (Error Vector Magnitude). Reduced signal quality will make it more difficult...

By "poor performance", we mean - like Michael says - a potential reduction in signal quality, and also larger variation in performance across devices, voltages and temperatures. Basically, we haven't fully qualified these settings so we can't say for certain how they perform. Most likely...

Copying the reference design is not always the best thing: dimensions are not mentioned (or I can't find them) and the DXF and Gerber files don't import correctly in Cadence Allegro PCB Editor (a lot of useless artifarcts appear). In addition, I like to know what the specifications of the balun...

TXPOWER and TXCTRL are somewhat, but not fully independent of each other. A setting of TXCTRL giving lower output power at one TXPOWER setting will also give lower output power at another, but the drop will probably not be exactly the same. In any case, I suggest you only use "experimental"...

You can feed CC2520 with an external clock signal on the XOSC32M_Q1 pin. XOSC32M_Q2 must then be left not connected. T he level can not be higher then 80% of VDD LPWRocks

CC2520+CC2591 On a single board
Mike3625
I am developing a board that uses the MSP430F2618, the CC2520, and the CC2591. I am using Zstack 2.1.0 and have been copying the connection of the MSP430 to the CC2520 from the CC2520DK. From some comments in Zstack(mac_dualchip.c) , I see the following connections from the CC2520 to the CC2591: * PA...

I know we have some people working on a CC2520+CC2591 reference design as we speak. That will probably answer most of your questions (my guess is the reason the component values for C1, C21 etc aren't listed anywhere is because the CC2520+CC2591 reference design simply isn't finished yet). With...

The short answer is, no you do not need to use IBUFLD and SIBUFEX. To execute commands normally, just write the commands as it is written in chapter 13.3. (If your previous instruction was an non-finite instruction you need to signal a new instruction by raising CSn, then reassert it beore starting the...

Hi Arun Krishna, There a few vendors that can support an IC/chip balun for CC2520. 1. Johanson Technology: http://www.johansontechnology.com/ 2. Anaren: http://www.anaren.com/ 3. Murata: http://www.murata.com/ 4. Würth: http://www.we-online.com/website/emc/eisos/alg/kat_layout.php?id=78...

CC2520 1V8 supply

Hi all, I wanted to ask if someone has tried supplying the CC2520 transceiver vith an external 1V8 source instead of using the internal regulator. If I supply it with an external source, do I have to enable the Vreg, or can I let it disabled (connected to ground), saving a pin in this way? Thanks...

Many thanks. I read the datasheet, but I thought it was possible to power the CC2520 using an external supply vithout using the internal Vreg, like in the case of CC2420. Maybe it's possible but not documented?

Re: CC2520 1V8 supply

That might be possible, via the decoupling capacitor pin, but I must leave that to those who know more of the intimate details of the part. The big issue that I could forsee is if you have that 1.8V supply going and the power to the chip goes down as you would like the two to be separate supplies for...

Reducing CC2520 RX power
Jomar Hønsi
Here are a few lines of code which will put the CC2520 in the so-called Low-Power RX mode, reducing RX power consumption to 18.3 mA, a value comparable top that of the CC2420. Please see the data sheet, section 5.10 for more information about the CC2520 Low Power RX mode. The function used in this example...

Re: What is the real benefit of 802.15.4 compliant chip over others?

On the PHY level 802.15.4 use a DSSS modulation scheme which offers very good robustness. Only the 802.15.4 radios offer this modulation. Above the PHY layer a device like cc2520 adds significantly more advanced protocol offload capabilities than cc2500. While this is tailored to the 802.15.4 MAC layer...

Re: What is the appliaction difference of CC2430 ; CC2480 ; CC2520? How much improvement can CC2591 make?
sverreb
The cc2480 needs an external MCU to run your application. It will run the stack on it's own (So you can use a smaller MSP than you can with the cc2520). The cc2430 enables you to run your own code along with the stack with no external MCU, but you must share resources with the stack.
