CCS/MSP-FET430UIF: MSP-FET430UIF Error connecting to the target: Unknown device

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

We are from Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, we have an MSP-FET430UFI. When I try to upload the sketch, or any response from the test board, I get an error: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device and the LED 101 blinks in red, the LED 102 is green, the board tries to do something and, after a while the LED 101 turns red and the same error is shown, Attached is the error. Have you connect the MSP430 device? What' the device ? How do you connect it with the MSP-FET430UIF?

What's the CCS version do you use?

Have you install the low level drivers?

I Did as sugested and installed the low level drivers, but same problem, I use the CCS 6.0.1.00040 , as far I've used diferent test boards having the same result in all three of them, any futher suggestions will be helpful, thanks for your support.

Could install the latest version of the CCS and try it again ? Your CCS version is too old.

I got another computer, and installed a new CCS Version: 7.4.0.00015 and proceded to connect the MSP-FET 430UIF device, drivers responded well, but when creating a new project from scratch, one of the default ones *Blink The Led* I get the same error:

Error connecting to the target:
Unknown device

So far I've tried:

- Different computers(2)

- CCS versions: 6 and 7.

- switched the target board for a new M430F6638 same as the previous one but nothing

Any other idea will be of help

I think the latest CCS version may be 9.

What's the test hardware board do you use? How do you connect it with the MSP-FET430UIF?

Did as suggested and installed CCS version 9 and still getting the same error when trying to run a debug for a simple predefined program ex. Blink The Led, so far version 6, 7, and 9 are resulting in the same error: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device. I get the same error whether I connect the target device or not. thanks for your time

OK, that seems not related with the software.

What's the test hardware board do you use? How do you connect it with the MSP-FET430UIF?

Hardware name is MSP430F6638, also sending the data sheet of the hardware, I connect it through the J13 port, thanks for any further help

Hi Armando

I saw your schematic and you should take care to connect the device with J13. You should connect the device follow below rules:

1. If you use the 4 wire JTAG you should connect the device like the Figure 2-1 in the https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slau278ae/slau278ae.pdf

2. If you use the SBW, you should connect the device like the Figure 2-3 in the same document before.

did as you said and after check Figure 2-1 I realized that the port as wrong, so I connected it in the other port. after this everything started work normally, thanks for your support and help.
