CCS: trouble with Resource Explorer not loading in CCS9.3 (but it worked with 9.1)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, C2000WARE, ENERGIA

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I am also having trouble launching CCS930 Resource Explorer. This worked fine in my 9.1 version and when I updated the version, it stopped working.  My coworker is also experiencing the same thing, loading fresh.

I then also tried some of the suggestions here on the forum to no luck. Finally I also uninstalled everything, wiping out the c:\ti folder and the folders in c:\users\xxx\ such as workspace_v9 and \ti, with no luck opening it.

I also gave permission in the firewall to allow ccstudio.exe eclipse.exe and a jxbroswer chromium executable I found in a folder, to have domain and private allowance

when I select Resource Explorer, in the bottom right I see a bunch of things that look like they are downloading or trying to... "downloads... content.jar" ... but then I get "This site cant be reached"  "the connection was reset."

Any new hints? What I can do? This sounds like it is common, there must be something I am not doing.

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

We did make a major update to Resource Explorer in 9.3.0 so I wonder if it that update is causing you grief.

What exact version of Windows are you using? Does the App Center and Eclipse Marketplace views work for you?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi, Ki

I am on Windows 10 , my PC auto updates so must be whatever is the current step.

The App Center filled in with the CCS Add Ons, Standalone Software and Additional Resources, but it did NOT fill in whatever the icon or pic for each one should have been. I can hover over them and get more info what each add-on does.

Eclipse Marketplace opened a new window showing all sorts of packages to install, and appears normal.

    John

  • Are you able to successfully check for updates in 9.3?

Can you also provide the Resource Explorer log in:

    C:\Users\\<username>\ti\tirex-localserver-3.7.1\.logs

  • When I check for updates, I get Marketplace Client as needing an update. Remember, the IDE was installed yesterday...

when I tell it to update, I get "Updating Software has encountered a problem" and it fails.

  • hmmm... not much in the log...

When you open the Getting Started view, can you get the embedded video in there to play?

  • Clicking on the video  "Play All" in the center of Getting Started launched a new tab in Edge at full size, opening a Youtube video titled "Getting Started with Code Composer Studio v6 BETA"

This means that the Getting Started view is unable to access the internet. It would simply play the video for CCSV9.3.0 inside the view if it could access the internet.

Please check the Eclipse proxy settings. It should pick up your system settings by default but sometimes this does not work and you have to manually configure it.

  • Active Provide was already set to Native but I re-selected it, and restarted twice. Still the Resource Explorer problem.

  • Instead of Native, can you manually configure it? When I run into similar connectivity issues, I've had to do a manual configuration like so:

  • I tried this, not knowing what to set Host to, I tried www . mycompany . com  and mycompany . com but that did not help.

Is there something in my systems settings that will indicate what to set this to?

I did not have to do this with 9.1.

It is best to check with your IT department. They will know what the settings should be set to.

  • John,

By the mean time, you can try to use the legacy Resource Explorer as in CCSv9.1:

    - Select from menu: "View" -> "Resource Explorer Offline"

    - You should see the legacy Resource Explorer page but in offline mode, i.e. just show the previously downloaded packages.

    - You can try go online by clicking the "Cloud" button at the top right corner.

    - See if you can get Resource Explorer goes online for additional contents?

  • I talked to my IT department, we do not have a proxy here

he suggested that if you guys are using a weird port, they restrict some inbound/outbound traffic if it is not 80 or 443  the firewall could block it

he says we have an application aware firewall and need more information from you, to have any better suggestions

I have a co-worker who just tried IDE 9.2 and Resource Explorer worked fine

  • John - did you try Bruce's suggestion of using the legacy Resouce Explorer in 9.3?

  • Offline opened up fine but there were no devices or development tools selectable

so maybe I should just to to 9.2?

  • What happens when you try to go online?

  • I'm having the exact same problem.  I never had any TI tools installed on this laptop before.  If I may be so bold, what SPECIFIC problem warranted an update from 9.1 (which apparently worked) and the latest version of 9.3 (that has this new problem)?  Are you planning to keep version 9.3 available on the website for installation as the "latest and greatest" even though you admit it has problems related to Resource Explorer, or will you be deleting 9.3 and reverting back to a version that doesn't have these problems?

  • "Resource Explorer encountered a problem. Please close and reopen Resource Explorer.

If you continue to experience problems then please refer tohttp://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCSv7#Resource_Explorer"

  • Ok, thanks John. As suspected, it is not an issue with Resource Explorer but more with CCSv9.3 and internet connectivity. I'm not sure why 9.2 works fine but 9.3 does not. You may want to stick with 9.2 while we try to come up with more suggestions to get 9.3 working on your end.

  • That's fine, keep me informed if there is any additional info later.

    Cheers!

  • Hi John,

Have you tried to start legacy Res. Expl. in offline mode then go online by pressing the cloud button?

  • Yes Bruce I did try that with 9.3 with no success. As instructed, I will stick with 9.2 until things sort themselves out.

John's issue is not specific to Resource Explorer. It appears a more general issue of many of the the CCS components not being able to access the internet. Hence issues with the Getting Started view, App Center, and Update Manager. It is an issue we have heard of in the past with other CCS versions and the issue seems specific to the user's environment.

Do you also have the same issues with the other components mentioned above?

  • Yes, I'm having similar issues.  After I installed 9,3, I could get the video to play, but the Resource Explorer itself wouldn't load. After clicking on it, nothing would happen for about 30 seconds, then I'd get some sort of error message (I know I'm being vague here).   I think my best plan here is to do a fresh install of the previous 9.2 version and try that.

    Can you do the following:

    1. go to <CCS 9.3 INSTALL DIR>\ccs\eclipse\ccstudio.ini and add the following line at the end:

    -Djxbrowser-remote-debugging-port=5678

    2. save the file and restart CCS 9.3

    3. Open App Center in CCS

    4. Open the chrome browser (assuming you have chrome installed) and enter the below in the URL field:

    localhost:5678

    5. In chrome, click on the highlighted area:

    6. Look in the Console field and see if there are any errors (usually in red). If you see errors, please post them to this thread.

    7. Do the same for the Network field. Look for errors.

Jim - if you have the same issues as John regarding the App Center, please try the above too.

    Thanks

  • I have the same issue over a fresh CCS installation at home (no proxy, ....). My computer OS is linux ubuntu 19.10 and CCS 9.3.

    Best regards.

  • Antonio - can you try 9.2 and see if you have any issues there?

  • I tried with 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3:

    • 9.1 OK.
    • 9.2 NOK. Project explorer panel showed at error message.
    • 9.3 NOK. Project explorer panel showed nothing.

  • Antonio- thanks. I think you have a different issue. In 9.2 and 9.3, can you access any other views that need internet access like App Center, Eclipse Marketplace, Updates, the embedded video in the Getting Started view?

  • Hi Ki,

You are right. App Center, Get Started, ... views are not working too when I am trying to use CSS 9.2 or CSS 9.3.

CCS is having issues accessing the internet. You mentioned you are on a home network with no proxy. Do you have any security software running on your machine (like antivirus, firewall, real-time security file scan, port monitoring, etc)? If so, can you try disabling it all and restart CCS and see if that helps?

OS is Ubuntu 19.10, there is not software security software like an antivirus or port filter.
