[FAQ] PMP20859: What benefits does the “smooth transition” feature offer in the implementation of Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD)?

Part Number: PMP20859

What benefits does the “smooth transition” feature offer in the implementation of Power over Ethernet (PoE) Powered Device (PD)?

  • The PMP20859 is a Dual-input redundant PoE PD reference design with the smooth transition feature. The smooth transition feature enables the delivery of non-interrupted output power. The PMP20859 reference design accepts two IEEE802.3bt inputs and an auxiliary input from a wall adapter. As long as one input remains connected, the other two inputs can be disconnected and/or reconnected without any interruption to the 5V/6A output power.

To learn more about the performance of this reference design under typical and stress test conditions, refer to section 2 "Testing and Results" of the User Guide for PMP208959.

You can also download the design files (BOM, Schematic, Gerber) for this reference design from the PMP20859 folder.
