[FAQ] PMP21495: What are the highlights of PMP21495 6.6kW dual-active-bridge CLLLC design?

Part Number: PMP21495
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21530-Q1, LMV116, TIDM-02002

What are the highlights should I look into this PMP21495 6.6kW dual-active-bridge CLLLC design? What are the benefits this design gets from UCC21530-Q1 and C2000 F280049C controllers?

  • PMP21495 is a 6.6kW bi-directional dual-active-bridge CLLLC resonant converter design targeting on-board-charge applications while is feasible to be applied to other high voltage/high power energy storage or backup systems. C2000 F280049C provides high level of freedom of control scheme design. High resolution PWM, high resolution dead time, high resolution phase shift, high speed ADC allow this high frequency converter design. In order to operate at high voltage and high frequency, SiC FETs are implemented to this design. Using UCC21530-Q1 driver allows us to fully drive SiC FETs while also able to turn the SiC FETs off very fast with proper negative driving voltages. Also, Rogowski coil along with high bandwidth OPAMP LMV116 and “digital comparator” that F280049C provided are used for synchronous rectifier (SR) sensing. The reason using Rogowski coil for SR sensing is because the output is at pretty high voltage (250V to 450V) while switching at high frequency (300kHz to 700kHz). Regular SR control methods like VDS sensing or using current sensing transformer are not working here.
