WEBENCH® Tools/TPS560430: Understanding efficiency of WEBENCH Design with TPS560430

Part Number: TPS560430

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

I created a WEBENCH Design using the TPS560430. With the following specs:

- Vin: 16.2V to 19.8V

- Vout: 3.3V

- Iout: 0.5A

I'm getting an efficiency of 81.3% however according to the data sheet (Page 7, Figure 1) I should be getting closer to 85% efficiency. Could you help explain to me why this is the case?

Thank you for the help!

  • Hi Noah,

Thanks for reaching us out. Webench uses complex algorithms to estimate the efficiency and other operating values. We try our best to match with bench data with same bill of material (BOM).

In this case, there might be a difference in BOM used in datasheet and Webench. This usually happens when Webench tries to give best possible solutions (considering cost/efficiency/footprint ). If we select different Inductor from alternate parts with lower DCR on Webench, you will find small jump in efficiency.

    Best Regards,

    Bhushan
