Part Number: TIDA-00792

Hi,

In TIDA-00792 reference design do I need to flash firmware/program into fuel gauge and eprom in first time or fuel gauge and monitoring IC's are coming with firmware.

  • Hi Pritesh,

The BQ78350-R1 is pre-programmed with the firmware.  In the product folder http://www.ti.com/product/BQ78350-R1/toolssoftware you can see there is a revA firmware which you can program if desired, it improves the shutdown sequence. The BQ78350-R2 firmware is available if you want the added features.

With any of these, whether you use the part as delivered or program an updated firmware, you must program the fuel gauge parameters into the device.  BQStudio is the provided tool for development, see the technical reference manual for details.

    Hi,

Is there any programming language required to flash/program BQ78350-R1 or R2 via EV2400 because i am from hardware domain.

  • In reply to Pritesh Metha:

    Hi Pritesh,

There is no programming language required.  It is point and click with the BQStudio software.  See the BQ76940EVM user guide for examples of the menus.  The EVM does not have the BQ76200 on it but has the same BQ76940 and BQ78350-R1 which will be configured.

    Hi,

Is there any alternative low cost programming/flashing device for BQ78350-R1 because cost of EV2400 is pretty much.

  • In reply to Pritesh Metha:

    Hi Pritesh,

Any adapter which can talk SMBus should be able to configure the BQ78350-R1 if it sends the right commands, but BQStudio will not talk to other adapters, so you would have to program the behavior if they don't have a tool which lets you construct the commands.

The EV2400 can be built from the board files in the tool folder if that is cost effective for your situation.  See   http://www.ti.com/tool/EV2400#technicaldocuments .  The programming files are also in the folder.
