Our customer is looking for the inductance and other parameters calculation used in the https://webench.ti.com/wb5/LDC/#/spirals. Do we have documentation that presents the equations used in the Coil Designer tool?

The coil designer employs the Mohan's equation captured in this paper http://smirc.stanford.edu/papers/JSSC99OCT-mohan.pdf.

thanks for that.

I am also interested in knowing where the other equations came from.

1. The coupling factor between the inductance distributed in different layers is despite an electrical connetion not equal to 1. Why? And where does the equation come from?

2. The restrictions respecively the limitations: First the geometrical limitations that are already set before choosing anything.

3. But also the maximum voltage of 4 Volts. Why do you use this and where does it come from?

4. The DC and AC resistance calculation. (Maybe most easy one)

I would be very grateful if you could answer that.

unfortunately none of my questions were answered by the FAQ.

Can I may talk to someone who designed the "coil designer" or do you have a documentation regard research and programming your "webench coil designer" ?

I do not have a sensing task.

I would appreciate a rapid answer.

Hi Giulia,

The person who designed and developed the "Coil Designer" tool is no longer with TI. We are also not able to locate any additional documentation beyond the reference paper already shared by Alfred above. Sorry that we are not able to provide you with exact answers to all your questions.

For question 3: I believe 4V is the maximum value of the voltage the coil would see as it is limited by the oscillation amplitude of the sensor device.

For question 4: AC resistance is calculated at the sensor frequency using skin effect - I do not have the exact equation, but you can use any of the PCB trace AC resistance calculators available online.
