TIDA-01418: Question for TIDA-01418

Hi Team,

Customer referred TIDA-01418, Automotive high voltage, high power motor driver reference design for HVAC compressor. TI made a complete protection circuit in this reference design. He would like to know how the three protection parts are implemented?

1. over load, under load.

2. motor lose phase,phase unbalance ,stall

3. lose communication

    For each fault, customer needs to decide the detection method of the fault and the desired behavior when the fault occurs.

    For example, consider loss of communication error. One method to detect error could be: The HVAC compressor module software sends communication message to the master module, and if the compressor module does not response back, then compressor module can conclude that there is loss of communication. Once the error is detected, the desired behavior of the compressor module is up to the customer. One example behavior could be to turn off the compressor in case of loss of communication.

    After the customer decides on the detection method and the desired behavior, the customer has to implement in this in software taking into account timing requirements, throughput requirements and any OS that the customer may be using.

    Similar determination needs to be done for other faults.
