CC2650: Achieving 1 or 2 Mbps data rate on CC2650

As the starter of the related thread, I too would like to achieve this data rate, with the additional problem that my packets need to be less than 40us in length, including preamble/sync (it's ok if every packet is just a couple of bytes of actual payload). Can I have the configuration parameters to do this? Thank you.

I don't believe that is helping, as I need to use proprietary mode. The only reason I'm increasing data rate is because I need to fit the packets in tiny amounts of time, below 40us as I wrote in the post. I don't believe bluetooth can do that.

Hi Giovanni,

I'm looking into this, there is no official settings for CC2650 and proprietary mode but you could re-use the BLE phy together with the proprietary command.

I don't believe I can fit those in tiny time slots of 100us or less, while I could with full proprietary mode (small preamble, small sync, no crc, etc.)

Unfortunately, there is no official settings available for proprietary mode today. Do you have a hard requirement on using the CC2650? The CC1350 and CC1352 support both dual band and proprietary in both bands and are supported in SmartRF Studio.

The hardware is already developed so yes, I would say I have a hard requirement on the CC2650. So the maximum achievable bitrate in proprietary mode is 750 kbps, 4-FSK?

I would expect that you could go higher but I have reached out for some experts in the matter to get a more precise answer on this. There could be a few days before they come back with an answer regarding this.

Hi Giovanni,

The highest datarate that can be achieved on CC2650 is 5mbps. However, this mode has a fixed ~200 symbol header in every packet and it will not fit in the 40us requirement. Alternatively, you could use the 2mbps BLE PHY with proprietary commands. This is the same modulation as BLE5 2mbps mode. However, by using proprietary API, some overhead associated with BLE protocol can be minimized.

On CC2650, implementation of this mode requires patches that are not released. Please contact you local TI office for further details.
