CCS/CC2652R: rfPacketRx_CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL_tirtos_ccs example project doesn't work

Hi, we have two CC2652R1 dev kits, Code Composer Studio Version: 9.3.0.00012, SDK 3_40_00_02 , the latest I believe.

One of the dev boards is running the rfPacketTx  example project, the other - rfPacketRx project. 

The transmitter runs as expected.  The receiver board shows no LED activity, as if it never receives anything. 

If we keep the transmitter running and connect the receiver board to RF studio and run the Rx packets test, it receives 100%.  Which means that  the hardware is ok, the transmitter  project is ok, but the receiver project has some issues. 

Can TI pls suggest what can go wrong?

Both projects are downloaded from the  Resource explorer without modifications.
