CCS/CC1310: Can't get program to run on custom hardware 4x4 RSM

Hello,

I'm using a CC1310 RSM package 4x4mm.

On this board I am trying to run the EasyLinkTx example.

The board is connected to a XDS110 debug probe on my launchpad through 2 wire JTAG (TCK, TMS, RESET, GND an 3V3).

When I use the board in smartRf Studio it works just fine. The software detects it and I can send and receive packets.

When I flash the program onto the custom board nothing happens. I power it up via a lab power supply at 3.3V and it shows about 6mA of current consumption.

So I assume the board powers up but does not do any RF stuff, because the current is very stable, also I can't receive anything with smartrf studio.

I already modified the board files according to the custom hardware guide. Setting the unused pins as "PIN_UNASSIGNED" .

Edit: maybe it is worth mentioning, that I don't have a 32kHz crystal on my custom board.

    Just so I understand you correctly, the CC1310 4x4 is on a custom board, and the custom board is connected to the debugger on a LaunchPad with a 2-pin JTAG connection (TMS, TCK).

    Have you tried to debug your device? If so, where does it crash?

    yes you did understand me correctly, the board is connected to the debugger on the a launchpad via 2 wire Jtag.

    My custom board does not have a 32khz crystal.

    The program hangs at the following section of the board.c file (CC1310_LAUNCHXL.c)

  • If you have a 4x4, you have to remove the lines from the board file that refer to IOIDs that does not exist on a 4x4.

    I thought it is enough to tag them as "PIN_UNASSIGNED"

    To start with the first line in the file you are using:

    #define CC1310_LAUNCHXL_DIO23_ANALOG          IOID_23

    IOID_23 does not exist on a 4x4, hence you have to change all lines that contains a IOID that does not exist on a 4x4.

    You need to take one step back and go through this methodically instead of trial and error.

    First of all, your BoardGpioInitTable array in CC1310_LAUNCHXL.c needs to be edited to remove all pins which does not exist on the CC1310 4x4.

    Then, you should go through all pins in CC1310_LAUNCHXL.h and re-assign all pins. And when I say all pins, I mean all pins. Pins that doesn't exist on the CC1310 4x4 should be set to PIN_UNASSIGNED.

    Then when debugging, and you encounter that calling the PIN API returns PIN_NO_ACCESS, you need to see which PIN in particular you tried to access, and see what pin was assigned in CC1310_LAUNCHXL.h. If it was PIN_UNASSIGNED, you need to assign one; if it was already assigned, make sure it is a valid pin on the CC1310 4x4.

    You need to do this work, not us.

    thank you for your anwser.

    I've tried it and it does not work. I set a expression watch on the pinID and it always is 0. So I can't find out which pin causes this.

  • You need to debug and tell us where it crashes.

  • It just stops at the same point.

    If I run the same program with the same board files on the Launchpad it works, but if I try to run it on my custom board it always stops at "PIN_NO_ACCESS".

  • I've already told you this before: if you see PIN_NO_ACCESS then check what PIN_Id is. Then, verify that that PIN is most importantly valid, and that PIN has been initialized either in the BoardGpioInitTable or a local PIN table in your application.

    For instance in your screenshot, you can see that pinId is 0. DIO_0 does not exist on CC1310 4x4. Hence, you need to remove that entirely from wherever that PIN declaration originates from (BoardGpioInitTable or local PIN table).

  • First of all there is a DIO_0 on the 4x4 package.

    Second thing is I removed all the pins which are not available on 4x4 in both files.

    Please don't give me this attitude. I want to develop a product with your chips and therefore I expect support from you.

    You are correct, DIO_0 does exist on CC1310 4x4. DIO_0 does not exist on CC1310 7x7 (RGZ), so I hastily drew the wrong conclusion.  I'm sorry for my rash comments there.

    Now, have you done what I said regarding checking the BoardGpioInitTable and the local PIN table?

    I removed the pin from BoardGpioInitTable but I don't know what you mean by local PIN table. In the main program there are only tables with the pins which are declared in CC1310_LAUNCHXL.h

  • If you remove all pins from BoardGpioInitTable and leave only PIN_TERMINATE, does the error still occur during PIN_init()?
