Hi Team,

One of my customers wants to use CC2652R to setup ZigBee network with the feature that manually assign PAN ID & nodes' short address, instead of assigned automatically by coordinator, they want to use their own defined short address.

Is it possible? If it is, how?

You cannot assign short address. It is assigned by Z-Stack automatically.

Hi Yan,

YK is correct, short address assignments are stochastic as part of the Zigbee PRO Specification and is further detailed in the Zigbee Alliance documentation as well as the Z-Stack User's Guide: http://dev.ti.com/tirex/content/simplelink_cc13x2_26x2_sdk_3_40_00_02/docs/zigbee/html/zigbee/z-stack-overview.html#network-address-assignment

It is possible to define the PAN ID of the network. Your customer may be able to exploit group addressing based on their application's needs.

Edit: After each device joins it will send a Device Announce that includes the 16-bit short address assigned by the ZC along with a 64-bit IEEE address that is specific to each device and modifiable as stored in the Z-Stack user configuration. You can further determine the IEEE address of any node at a given time using the IEEE Address Request if provided with the short address. Therefore the user’s application can track/manage nodes by correlating ZC-assigned short addresses to their respective ZR/ZED-determined IEEE address.

Thank you for your reply.

For the short address, I know some CC253x module makers they have done something based on TI official ZigBee SDK that downloaded from ti.com made it happened, sounds not like ZigBee standard, but they made it.

For CC2652, I suggested customer tried below code, looks like they could successfully assign a short address on the nodes, but the coordinator could not recognize it.

_NIB.nwkDevAddress = address;

ZMacSetReq( ZMacShortAddress, (byte*)&_NIB.nwkDevAddress );

ZDApp_AnnounceNewAddress(),

So despite the ZigBee standard, any more suggestions?

As we had replied, you cannot assign short address in current Z-Stack.
