Maximum Usable Input Power Clarification in CC2564 product

I just wanted to clarify what is meant by the parameter 'Maximum Usable Input Power' in section 5.7.4.1.1 Bluetooth Receiver—In-Band Signals of CC2564's datasheet. It is stated there that the -5 dbm is the maximum usable input power. Does this mean that I cannot input a power greater than -5dbm in the RF pin of the module? What would be the effect to the receiver in case the input signal power is beyond that limit?

Hi,

Yes, the specification in the datasheet means that the input power at the RF pin of CC2564 cannot exceed -5dBm. The effect of having input power more that that would be higher BER in best case scenario and permanent damage to the chip in worst case scenario.

I would like to point out that the Bluetooth specification requirement is set at -20dBm. So the CC2564 has extra 15dBm headroom. But, if you plan to do conductive testing, it is best to use RF attenuator to bring the input power down. Hope this helps.
