BOOSTXL-CC2650MA: can't be detected by Flash Programmer 2 and can't use MSP432 to update BOOSTXL-CC2650MA ( BSL update didn't work. )

Part Number: BOOSTXL-CC2650MA
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650

First, after downloading the MSP432 with simple application processor, I tried to read the data it send to the PC. But I only received "application processor Initializing" and "Done!" and didn't receive "State set to idle". Then I pressed the S1, I received nothing and can't detect the Simple AP by my phone's app. I pressed the S2, I got the data "Device being set into BSL mode" and LED2 was turned on. After a long time, there was nothing new received. The only line was "Device being set into BSL mode" and LED2 was still on. I had tried many times for this, but this problem still existed.

After that, I tried to use the XDS110 on the MSP432P401R LaunchPad to flash the BOOSTXL-CC2650MA, but it couldn't be detected by Flash Programmer 2. (I had removed all of the wire jumpers on the MSP432.)

Then I downloaded the MSP432 with Project Zero which works really well before I downloaded the simple application processor. However, now I can't detect the Project Zero by my phone's app.

What's wrong with my BOOSTXL-CC2650MA?

And how to solve these problems:

1. Not being detected by Flash Programmer 2

2.Not showing the bluetooth device (Project Zero or Simple AP)

3. BSL update didn't work.

4. "State set to idle" didn't be received after "Done!"

Thanks very much for helping me!

  • Make sure you give power to your BOOSTXL-CC2650MA.
  • Hi YK,
When I plugged the BOOSTXL-CC2650MA on MSP432, MSP432 provides power. When I use JTAG 10 PIN, JTAG provides power. Flash Programmer 2 and CCS7.3.0 CAN'T connect the BOOSTXL-CC2650MA.
Before I downloaded the Simple Application Processor and pressed S1 and S2, Project Zero could works well. After that, Project Zero can't work.

  • I don’t think jtag provide power. When I test this, I have to give power externally.
  • Hi YiKai,

Thanks for your kindly attention. Now I can detect  BOOSTXL-CC2650MA by Flash Programmer 2. However, when I plug the BOOSTXL-CC2650MA on the MSP432 LaunchPad, the project "simple application processor" can't work well. As it is showed below:

It can't show the line: State set to idle.

And pressing S1, I got nothing.

Pressing S2, I only get one line "Device being set into BSL mode.

" As it is showed below:

I have no idea to solve this problem. Could you please give me some advice.

    Thank you.

  • Hello Fengzhi,

This might be related to the image that you are downloading into the CC2650 Boosterpack. Have you seen this user guide?

    dev.ti.com/.../users_guide_simplelink_msp432_sdk_plugin.html

The only thing that we forgot to mention, is that you will need to populate jumper JP102 on the MSP432 Launchapad, if not you will have to provide power externally to the Boosterpack (using jumper wires)  as you're already aware.

Which image are you using to program the CC2650 Boosterpack? At the same time please try this BoosterPack image (took it from the simplelink_msp432_sdk_bluetooth_plugin_1_20_00_42) and let us know if you see the same behavior.

     Best regards,

       David
