The LaunchPad is useful for developers. XDS_RXD and XDS_TXD is connected to the TXD/RXD of CC2640R2F on LaunchPad, so we can output data through the back UART channel to debugger/PC. But we can't do it when the "External Target" port is used to debug customized boards. In this case, we have to "jump additional wires" for RXD/TXD signals.
Here is my suggestion for the debugger port P7. Add two jumpers for connecting P7.3 to XDS_RXD and P7.5 to XDS_TXD. With this, we can output UART data through P7 directly. It will be easier and convenient for developers to debug customized boards.
This suggestion also applies to other CC LaunchPad.
