CC1310 OOK support and radio firmware update

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1310

Hi,

I'm considering the CC1310 in a new design to replace a CC1111. A main requirement (due to certain legacy systems) is support for OOK, the datasheet mentions this is supported, however, in the ref manual I only found:

modType : 0: FSK, 1: GFSK, Others: Reserved

(page 1581, Table 23-140)

Am I overlooking something or is OOK just not yet documented?

Best

David

  • CC1310 supports OOK. This is a feature that is not fully characterized yet, hence it's not in the datasheet. Please refer to the errata note.
  • Thanks for the very quick reply. I guess the FW upgrade mentioned in the errata refers to the radio CPU? Just out of interest, though slightly off-topic, will you support custom firmwares on the radio CPU at some point? I guess this would make quite a killer feature for SDR-affine users...
  • Yes and no.

We support custom firmware for the radio MCU, more features will be added to the chip by providing patches to the existing code but we will not open this for customers. To write a patch requires knowledge of the chip far outside what we are going to include in the documentation.
  • OK, still a quite interesting feature to update the radio. I can understand you do not want to give full support for this. Still it would be fantastic IMHO to have at least some documentation for power users who have time and interest to find out the necessary pieces on their own. I assume the radio part has an SDR-like architecture internally, so with custom FW the CC1310 could be the basis for a very decent and cheap SDR (similar to DVB-T sticks we have today but with TX capabilities) in the future. However I know this discussion probably exceeds the scope of this post :)
