Hi,

1. It is possible to use rcn lib in a simple console application? For example, for discovery/pairing mechanism rti lib provides RTI_PairReq and RTI_AllowPairReq, but with rti lib I can't deal with discovery mechanism issue.

2. I am studing RemoTI API and I am a bit confused with the difference between RCN and RTI functionalities. I know that this question reflects some doubts that I have about the difference between ZRC profile and RF4CE specification functionalities.
2.1 When we are using RCN lib we are not using ZRC profile, are we?
2.2 I understood while I was reading RemoTI API that both RCN and RTI deals with initialization, discovery/pairing, send/receive data, power management. So, what we can't do with one and we can't do with another?

Hi Jessica,

1. Yes you can use RCN on Simple Console. Just don't mix RTI and RCN, so if you are using RCN functions, stick with RCN or if you are using RTI function calls then stick with the RTI function calls.

2. RCN is the network layer which . RTI adds the profiles and their functionality.

2.1 No, you are not using any profiles with RCN only.

2.2 Refer to 2.

I will use RTI only. With RTI API, is not possible to get a list of discovered devices through discovery mechanism, is it?

Hi Jessica,

It is not possible unless you modify the RTI API and if by doing so you can easily break ZRC compatibility. The reason is that RTI essentially implements the ZRC profile and ZRC defines the pairing mechanism. This includes discovery. Hence this logic must be kept in RTI layer. Pairing is attempted if exactly two consecutive identical Discovery Responses are received.

Hi Jose,

I have just one more question about it. So if i implement a firmware for a device with rcn.lib, this device will not interoperate with a device which firmware was developed with rti.lib, won't it? If you we are looking for interoperability with different device from different vendors we have to use a profile, have we?

It wont unless you implement the ZRC profile on RCN because the device with RTI.lib will operate following the ZRC profile (in this case).
