WL18xxMOD JATE Cetification

Dear E2E members

Our customer considers using WL18xxMOD, and requires ''JATE'' certification with it.

Customer's product maybe a telecommunication system but we can not confirm so far.

About JATE , please refer to the following link.

 http://www.jate.or.jp/english/pamphlet/pamphlet.pdf

As we understand WL18xxMOD is certificated to TELEC, FCC, CE,  we have below questions.

1. Does WL18xxMOD be certificated with JATE?

2. Does customer need to obtain the JATE certification on WL18xxMOD if it is certificated with TELEC?

Please let us know if you are familiar with the authentication of Radio Law in Japan.

Regards,

Maru

  • Hi,

I am sorry, I am not familiar about this, but as far as I know (based on information on the internet), TELEC is what is required for RF equipment.

  • Hello,

This is a bit in the grey zone of the regulations. The TELEC certification covers the physical characteristics of the RF signal, (power, frequency Etc.) as per the Radio Law of Japan, but TELEC certification covers the security of the transmission (ID code) as per the Telecommunications Business Law.

Now, there have always been discussions whether such radio devices (without a direct connection to the public network) should be JATE certified or not, and most of times, a case by case inquiry to JATE is necessary. (We can do this for You if you're not familiar with JATE officers.)

Also, if I remember correctly, a bluetooth device can obtain JATE certification on its own, but a Wifi device has to be certified as a pair with the router, therefore this may be an additional difficulty for this device.

Last, since October 2014, TELEC can also do the "JATE" part of the certification, if You don't want to deal with 2 different CABs.

    I hope this helps,

    Aki

  • Hi,

We have been in the Japanese market for 10 years, and never been asked to pass the JATE certification.
