CC8530 balun + antenna recommendations

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC8530

Hi!

We have several "semi functional" attempts with the CC8530. We're very happy with the device, but i've resolved to accepting that we do not have the experience to design our own RF matching circuit ad/or our own PCB trace antenna.

So, in order to minimize the risk, i am moving to this direction:

My questions are:

1- If i design the circuit just like the TI application note above with the balun, can i just populate this Molex antenna instead of the SMA connector? or are there some differences to watch for?

2- What about this ceramic chip antenna (http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1640991.pdfthe Mounting Considerations, of course) ?

Thank you very much.

  • Hello,
That's an interesting Molex antenna you found. To reply to your questions:
1.) I would design in matching components between the balun and Molex antenna in case they are needed. Does Molex provide s-parameters for the antenna?
2.) The same comments apply to the Farnell chip antenna.

Do you have RF test equipment and RF simulation software?
