Multiple Codecs with one CC8530

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC8530

Hi everyone,

As CC8530 offers 4 stereo channels I am wondering to use all channels as Inputs or Output, but I can`t find  a Coded with 4 stereo inputs and 4 outputs.

Therefore I am willing to use two codecs. Is it possible to set the CC8530 to work with 2 codecs by controlling them with the I2C communication?

Any other tip would be really appreciated!.

Thanks!!

  • Hi,

Just as a comment, the CC8530 supports 4 mono channels i.e 2 stereo channels.

  • Hi, you probably can connect two stereo codecs to the cc8530. Clock signals for I2S bus will be connected together. I2S data signals will use independent inputs/outputs AD0, AD1. I don't know if you can program codecs independently, but probably not. It will be needed to write I2C scripts for initializing of your codecs and for volume change and mute function. Maybe it is simple when your codecs will be on different addresses but I didn't tried. Also I don't remember if you can use 4 channels in both direction simultaneously, but probably not. If you don't want to use volume control, that you can use some codec or dac in hardware mode and don't use I2C bus.
