4x Microphones to one consumer - can each microphone be turned on/off remotely?

HI All,

i have an application with 4x mono microphones to from the one consumer. Can I, from the consume,r remotely disconnect a microphone (CC8520) from the network and place it in a low power state. Thus can I then ask the producer to rejoin the network remotely?

My devices are all host controlled and i will be using the side data channel. If however I remove one microphone from the network i can invoke it to rejoin using my host processor but I would like this facility at the consumer end. I want to do this to save power as all mics are running on batteries. Think four independent presenters with a wireless mic each. I want to remotely switch them on at will.

Ideally the microphones would go into a low power rx-only mode.

    This is not really achievable since the CC85xx does not have such a low power rx-only mode. Using the data-side channel you can of course specify a command to send to the host of the slave to trigger it to leave the network, but once the slave leaves the network there are no possibilities to remotely activate it again from the master. The decision to rejoin the network would have to be taken locally on the slave device, and at the same time the master needs to be in pairing mode.

    To follow up: 

    Are we saying that if we have producers streaming to a consumer. Through the data side channel I command a slave host to leave the network but other producers are still transmitting to the consumer. Can the host on the slave that has disconnected then request re-connection to the network whilst the other producers are live without the consumer going into a pairing mode?

  • Hi James,

    The master device/consumer must be in paring mode to for the slave to be able to re-connect to the network. This is however just a small change of the master packet so the other producers can continue to stream audio uninterrupted to the consumer even though it is in this "mode".
